Joe Davis was born and raised in Kannapolis NC, home of
NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt, George Clinton and the former
industrial giant Cannon Mills.
"Paying your dues" and "sacrifice" cannot even begin to show the
rough times he has gone through to get his music prepared to be
presented to the world. The unreal struggle of Joe Davis and his
music is a timely tale, and difficult to put into words. But, with a
promise of writing a book of his adventures of touring, this is the

Joe Davis was born and raised in Kannapolis NC, home of

Joe has been playing guitar since he was a child. He was beyond obsessed with guitar. He practiced relentlessly everyday since
starting at the young age of four years old. He just could not put the guitar down. He played in front of his mom's basement
window, watching the sunlight go up and down for days without stopping. He wanted to be the best, the absolute best guitarist
imaginable. His mom had to literally peel the guitar out of his hands after days and days of him just standing there, playing. This
continued for many years. He studied on his own, focusing on all forms of guitar music, from Yngwie Malmsteen to Lynyrd Skynyrd;
Sergovia to Hendrix, figuring out their music on cassette tapes and vinyl. CDs were just then coming into their own and no one had
tabs like they do now for songs (the internet was not like it is now).
There were so many influences that helped mold his abilities on the guitar. One of the strangest combinations was one which he
learned from Jerry Reed, Roy Clark, and Chet Atkins: finger pickin' licks. He learned these growing up and then compounded them
with the hard rock and metal guitarist's styles he admired. With a huge nod toward many of the guitar guys we all know and love to
hear, he created his on style and his own music. Joe excelled on the guitar, with a appreciation for all styles of guitar music, from
delta blues, to country; southern rock, to heavy metal.
Gibson Les Paul guitars were Joe's axe of choice. This was originally inspired by seeing Jimmy Page and Gary Moore play these styled
guitars. Finally, in the eighties, Joe's dad loaned him the money for a guitar and he bought a 1980 Goldtop Gibson Les Paul from a
guitar collector. Joe did odd jobs and washed dishes in order to pay his dad back. He was 13 years old.
Joe got into the music industry at a young age and grew up as a working musician, living in different cities through some really
horrific times. He joined bands just as a guitarist and played shows throughout the US, from rock concerts, festivals, stadiums, and
amphitheaters, to hard core redneck bar rooms and back yard BBQs. He played anywhere that someone would give him the chance
to stand there long enough for him to get his guitar out. Joe was working with a variety of acts, mostly with musicians who were
older than him, and who taught him the ropes of the music business. One of the ways that Joe differed from his friends who played
was the fact he listened to older music. When his friends were into metal bands, Joe listened to Led Zepplin, Jeff Beck, Daune
Allman, Paul Kossoff, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and other guitarists of that time period. He loved the power of the metal bands, but
he also admired the soul of the music being played by others. Joe combined the two, along with his own southern soul, into a new
musical direction. After many years Joe started wanting to develop his own original songs, and soon after dealing with egotistical
rock star wanna-be's, he struck out on his own.
The Joe Davis Band was born.
Joe never wanted to sing or front a band, but it fell right into place when he took the helm. Taking over lead vocal duties for his own
music, he secured the music direction with his distinct voice and signature guitar style. Years later, this style won him multiple
awards such as the 2007 Charlotte Music Awards' best hard rock act and 2008's best male vocalist.
Some of the influence that created the sound of The Joe Davis Band came from the sound of John Fogerty's swampy twang and a
mix of heavy metal music. Joe incorporated fiery chicken-pickin' and delta slide guitar into the mix, with bone crushing riffs to boot.
He plays a super high energy live show, where he pays tributes to his heroes by performing some mega-powered cover songs, such
as Free Bird and Great White Buffalo.
The Joe Davis Band is a organic mix, where the band has their heart and soul in the right place, and the over the top power to drive
it home.
Joe Davis is one of the hardest working musicians to ever strap on a guitar, with hundreds of shows under his belt and five albums
released to date. Digging towards the light, Joe Davis is going to make his mark in the music world. His intention was never to be a
rock star; he is a true guitar addict who loves music, both creating it, as well as sharing it. Joe will always be a fan of music. Starting
his band was his way of showing off his songwriting skills as well as his powerful guitar work.
